Swing Dance
Second Friday of Every Month
Live music by a collaboration of world renowned musicians:
Jared Engle of Baby Soda Jazz Band
Sauerkraut Seth of the Wiyos
And
Allen Livermore of the Limb Shakers
This will be a night of incredible jazz played by some of the best band leaders from the jazz scene of today! We will here music from the traditional jazz style of New Orleans and many of the swing classics that rule the day in the years that followed.
Prior to the music there will a fantastic workshop by the known and loved Walter and Lauren. For only $5 more, Walter & Lauren Keeley will be teaching an intermediate lindy hop lesson called "Chill out Swingout." It will focus on swingout variations that allow a dancer to "slow down" the music, enjoy every step, and allow more space for improvisations and musicality.
Helsinki has a large wood floor, cash bar and restaurant.

Giving a home to many a swing dance enthusiast in Columbia County, Swing Night At Helsinki is a local community collaboration of musicians, dancers and dance enthusiasts. It is open to the public.
The evening starts with a lesson for all levels of dancers, no partner necessary, followed by musicians playing classic swing tunes.
The Instructor:
Paul Rix has been swing dancing since 2003. He began dancing in Phoenix, then relocated to San Diego where he danced with Radioland Rugcutters Dance Troupe. Paul is dedicated to establishing a thriving Swing Dance Community. He began teaching swing on the East Coast at Berkshire Pulse Dance Studio in Housatonic, MA. Now a Columbia County resident, Paul teaches private lessons, small groups, progressive workshops, and weekend intensives in East Coast, Lindy Hop, Charleston and Balboa in the Southern Berkshires, Columbia County, and Albany area.

Monday Night Classes
Beginner Class & Practica: 6:00 to 7:00
Tango basics and fundamentals for each dancer at his or her own level and ability. We have lots of space and a beautiful floor at Club Helsinki. Intermediate dancers can attend for practice and to assist beginners.
Intermediate Class: 7:00 to 8:00
Each week we develop our dance -- alignment, embrace, connection and musicality as we learn new figures, combinations and improvisational skills of tango -- this week's class ˇmilonga!

Everyone is Welcome. No partner is necessary.
Please wear shoes for dancing, leather or suede soles are best! Dance sneakers are also acceptable. Talk to us if you have any questions about shoes.
Maggie and Ellen have taught tango in Hudson for over three years. They host Milonga Mala Junta at Club Helsinki. They are available for private instruction.
Maggie Griffin brings her many years of dance experience and a patient and clear teaching style to her students. She teaches tango and runs the practica at Tango New Paltz; and co-hosts Milonga Mariposa in New Paltz at 36 Main St.
Ellen Chrystal has danced tango for over 15 years and she is the co-founder of Tango New Paltz, as well as the founder of Tango Hudson.

Argentine Tango, as danced in cities around the world, is a partnered social dance originating in Buenos Aries in the late 1800's. The richness and the beauty of the music is expressed through the dance, and improvised from moment to moment with your partner, as though each dance is your last.
The evening starts with a lesson for all levels of dancers, no partner necessary. Bring a pair of leather or suede soled shoes.

Ellen Chrystal studied and danced tango in NYC, Buenos Aires, and cites around the world. She teaches in New Paltz, Hudson, and at Kaatsbaan in Tivoli.
